Beyond BOW Workshops

Beyond BOW Workshops provide opportunity to expand on the sessions offered at the three-day Introductory Skills Weekend.  Workshops are scheduled throughout the year in a range of exciting topics.  Previous attendance to the Introductory Skills Weekend is common but not required to attend a Beyond BOW Workshop.

Winter Skills Weekend
February 13 & 14, 2010
Southern Maine Guide Service  - Parsonsfield, Maine
Become more comfortable in Maine’s cold weather woodlands!  This workshop will provide instruction and field practice in several wintertime essential skills.  The two-day workshop will cover GPS, map and compass, orienteering, building snow shelters, wilderness first aid, selecting, maintaining and using snowshoes, observing animal sign, cooking over an open camp fire and selecting appropriate outdoor clothing for winter.

Archery Workshop
February 27, 2010 12-4pm
Sportsman's BARR - Gardiner, ME

The knowledgeable staff at the Spoortsman's BARR will give personalized instruction on how to use traditional and compound bows.  Learn how to choose the right bow, how to sight it in, how to tune your equipment and what accessories are available and useful.  Participants will also have ample opportunity for target practice and will learn what to do to further enjoy the sport.

Snowshoeing Workshop
March 6, 2010 9am-3pm
West Gardiner Rod & Gun Club

Snowshoeing is an excellent way to get out and enjoy Maine’s outdoors during the winter season and get some exercise while you’re at it.  This course will cover equipment, gear and technique and will allow participants to go on a guided snowshoe hike through the woods for the afternoon.  Map & Compass skills will also be covered as well as orienteering while snowshoeing.  Participants are encouraged to bring “friendly” dogs along for the trip!
